Educational Plan

The aim of the course is to provide students with the knowledge needed to use the Totally Integrated Automation (TIA) Selection Tool environment (for designing industrial automation solutions) and the TIA Portal environment (for developing applications related to the industrial automation sector).

The course is structured to deliver content in training centers, as required by the company SIEMENS S.p.A., in order to achieve a basic level of automation knowledge.

At the end of the lessons, students will have the opportunity to take the competency certification exam free of charge. The exam is structured in two parts. In the first part, students will be given 40 multiple-choice questions to complete in one hour. This part will be considered passed if the student answers 32 or more questions correctly out of 40 (i.e., 80%). In the second part of the exam, students will be presented with a problem for which they must design an industrial automation solution using the TIA Selection Tool and implement the automation program in TIA Portal. The time available to complete the second part is 3 hours. This part will be considered passed if the project has no compilation errors and the program works correctly using the PLSCIM simulator.

The teaching materials used include educational manuals, videos, and on-demand webinars provided by Siemens Automation Cooperates with Education (SCE), available for free download at the following link: https://www.siemens.com/it/it/prodotti/automazione/sce.html.

Below is a basic reference documentation list from the SCE website:

•       S7-1200 Hardware Configuration Modules: 011-100 | 011-101 | 011-102

•       S7-1200 Programming Modules: 031-100 | 031-200 | 031-300 | 031-410

•       Basic HMI Visualization Modules: 041-101

•       ET200SP Configuration Modules: 012-201

•       Didactic Webinars Catalog_Years 2019–2021_rev0721.pdf

Additionally, lessons will be supported by slides provided by the instructor, which will remain available to the course students.

Students enrolling in this professional course will receive a link to download the TIA Selection Tool and TIA Portal software, to be used in class and for individual study. The TIA Portal software licenses, valid for one year, will be distributed individually.
