University Museum Centre

The Museum Hub of the University of L'Aquila was established with the goal of developing new and more effective ways to disseminate culture related to the university's heritage, while also supporting the most current forms of teaching closely linked to research and its tools.

The exhibits include equipment used by our researchers since the university's founding in the 1950s, essential devices for their work and for the continuous growth of our University.

The museum spaces, therefore, host instruments related to studies in the fields of biological and biotechnological sciences, environmental sciences, computer science, physics, and engineering.

Ample space is also dedicated to the outcomes of research from various laboratories, such as those in Environmental Sciences, Editorial Archives, and Archaeology, whose findings have been discovered during various excavation campaigns.

In this way, the Museum Hub serves as a "showcase" to the community for the numerous ongoing investigations within the University. In this sense, it promotes the integration of individual departments with local institutions, further connecting the academic world to the city and its territory.

The decision to give the museum structure a polycentric nature, distributing the various collections across different locations, stems from the need not to decontextualize the instruments from their original settings, while also revitalizing some historic university buildings. These buildings thus become places for meetings, exhibitions, and debates with multidisciplinary museum exhibitions and temporary shows.

The Technical Staff of the DIIIE participated in the development of the Engineering collection of the Museum Hub and in drafting the technical data sheets resulting from the survey of the materials to be exhibited.
