The Department of Industrial and Information Engineering and Economics (DIIIE) at the University of L’Aquila was established in 2012 as a merger of faculty and technical-administrative staff from the following departments:

Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, and Materials

Economics

Electrical and Information Engineering

Mechanical, Energy, and Management Engineering
The DIIIE includes around 110 individuals comprising full professors, associate professors, permanent researchers, and fixed-term researchers, along with about 30 technical and administrative staff, as well as research fellows and PhD students.

The DIIIE hosts the PhD Program in Industrial and Information Engineering and Economics.
The main objectives of the Department are the organization and development of research in the fields of Industrial and Information Engineering and Economics, including: geometry and algebra, mathematical analysis, probability and mathematical statistics, experimental physics of matter, applied mechanics, industrial design, mechanical design and metallurgy, manufacturing technologies and systems, mechanical industrial plants, machines and systems for energy and the environment, engineering management, technical physics, materials science and technology, systems, methods and technologies of chemical and process engineering, chemical industrial plants and processes, electrical engineering, electric power engineering, electric mobility and automation, electronics, measurements, electromagnetic fields, information processing systems, private law, labor law, constitutional law, administrative law, economic law and financial and agri-food markets, economic policy, public finance, business economics, business management, organization theory, financial intermediaries and finance, statistics, mathematical methods for economics, actuarial and financial sciences.
The DIIIE is organized into research groups with shared scientific interests. Research is supported by various laboratories and IT facilities. Its researchers collaborate with numerous universities, agencies, and institutes, and participate in national and international research programs. A significant activity of the department is technology transfer to public and private enterprises, along with collaboration with the local social and economic context.
The Director of the DIIIE is Prof. Eng. Vincenzo Stornelli.
In 2015, the DIIIE obtained ISO 9001:2008 quality certification for outsourced chemical-physical-biological laboratory analysis activities.
